John Maxwell is a bestselling author, sought-after public speaker, incredible communicator, and voted as the number one leadership expert in the world. He is also an ordained pastor. He has been training leaders around the world for more than 50 years.

He grew up in a home where nobody ever spoke about a career or a job. He and his brother were encouraged rather to focus on their calling. During high school, John’s father incentivised them to read a selection of books which he carefully chose. These were autobiographies and other non-fiction books. John realised early on that he had a call of God on his life. After studying at Ohio Christian University, he became a full time pastor, later receiving a Master in Divinity and then a PHD in Ministry.

It made John realise that his dreams, goals and ambitions would not materialise unless he became intentional about life, and that he needed to embark on a journey of personal growth. He discussed the matter with his wife Margaret, and decided to invest the $ 799 necessary to buy the kit. It was a big investment on a pastor’s salary in the 1970’s, and it proved to be an excellent one.

After leading and growing several churches, he began teaching other pastors on leadership. Very soon the secular world was requesting his services to help corporate leaders. At this stage, in a calculated and intentional move to reach a wider audience, he started writing about leadership, growth, and communication.

John has gone on to become a sought after speaker, has written around 100 books, several of which have become New York Times best sellers, and has influenced thousands of leaders around the world. In 2011 he was persuaded to start a coaching company, which has since qualified hundreds of coaches worldwide. His books are used as textbooks and reference books for coaching and training by certified coaches, and the principles hold eternal value. When asked which his best book is, his standard answer is “my latest book”, because his writing is still improving, his focus is ever sharper, and it is pertinent to the current times.
